The Simkin Centre is moving forward with a plan to build an 18,000 sq ft addition that will be connected to our current 200 bed personal care home. This new expansion will be divided into two equally important and integrated sections including:
Multi-purpose area
Intergenerational sensory room
- Specialized environment for seniors with dementia or cognitive decline that stimulates senses and allows the brain to form new connections
- Supports the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of children sensitive to sensory input
Rehabilitation area for seniors and children
- Designed to maintain and improve fitness through access to physiotherapy, kinesiology, and community therapy services
Research area
- Focused on research to improve life for Residents and make advancements in care
Classroom/lecture area
- Available for continuing educational opportunities for staff and family members of the Simkin Centre
Childcare

Approximately 100 full-time childcare spots available to everyone
- Infant and child daycare
- After school care
- Operational agreement with a community agency experienced in daycare operations
- $10/day fee structure
- Seniors can access children’s activities for spontaneous and scheduled programming such as crafts, singing, and reading
